Week 1: Strong Start
Share
What started as a fun hobby, turned into a microbakery!
I launched my website Jan 1st at midnight. By Jan 2nd I had Seven individual orders to fulfill! I was nervous and anxious to get these orders baked and shipped. This was my first time baking sourdough to sell. But I put on my big girl pants and made bulk batches for the first time and shipped with in 3 days! There was also a language curve with shipping at first. It just took my first set of orders to reach their new homes to gain the confidence.
By some magic or divine intervention, I received my next 6 orders that next day. Having had a successful first batch I eagerly got started! I made this batch in 3 days and shipped the next! I took a day or two off after this batch to mainly rest my arms lol. Bread making is like arm day I swear.
Now with low steady orders rolling in,I have time to perfect and refine. I had some slight hiccups with the first set of orders. First, I over fermented my first batch of classic Sourdough. Which is easy to do because dough ferments faster in big batches. I quickly made another batch and watched it closely. I'm compiling research from other micro bakers to make sure I have perfect dough each time. Second, shipping delays. My first batch was all delayed due to the winter storm. I'm still figuring out how to make sure its on schedule. I don't think that's always possible... but I do think I can plan accordingly. I'll watch out for storms and either expedite shipping or send notices to bake after big storms. All in the name of freshness!
Since I've been making content on Tiktok and Instagram keeping followers updated on the baking process and shipping. It's actually a win- win trying out new recipes and posting the process. Plus my loved ones have endless baked goods! In the next few weeks I want to post more about the full process of baking sourdough for beginners.
